Dealing with Oily Skin

Oily skin is the result of overproduction of sebum by sebaceous glands. Oily skin is the real cause of acne breakouts. To control acne successfully forever, you must treat oily skin first. People use various methods (cosmetics, mask and cleansers) to prevent excessive oil secretion contrary to popular belief using masks and cleansers is not a proper solution.

Why your skin is oily?

Your skin contains millions of hair follicles and sebaceous glands. Hair follicles work as tiny duct for sebum discharge and hair sheath through which hair arises. Sebaceous glands produce sebum (oil) that lubricates the hair inside the follicles. Hair lubrication is necessary for proper hair growth.

Sebaceous glands are sensitive to androgenic hormones. Overproduction of androgenic hormones induces the sebaceous glands to secrete more sebum. Weak immune system is also another big cause of excessive production of sebum.

When excessive (sebum) oil discharges through hair follicles, your skin becomes oily.

How you can control oily skin?

Controlling the oily skin is not as easy as most people consider. As a first step towards controlling oily skin, you must diagnose the real causes of excessive sebum production. Once you have diagnosed it properly, the second step begins to find out the right medication that suits your skin type.

Diagnosing the Causes of Oily Skin:
For proper diagnosis, you must visit your dermatologist. Following are some tips for self diagnosis, but they are not alternative to doctor?s diagnosis and recommendations. It is solely for your knowledge and awareness.

  • In case of weak immune system, you may have developed other disorders such as bacterial infection, influenza, muscle cramp, etc due to weak immune system.
  • In case of fluctuation in androgenic hormones, you may have been developing excessive hair on your body and scalp than usual. Fluctuation of androgenic hormones may cause hair loss.

After you have diagnosed or get your skin diagnosed by dermatologist, the second step begins to treat it.

Controlling the Oily Skin:
You can control oily skin in various ways using topical and oral remedies. In case of severe oily skin, both treatment options are helpful for successful prevention. Be careful while you are using any remedy that it must target the root cause of the problem such as weak immune system and fluctuation in androgenic hormones.

Most people seem to use only topical remedies that clog the pores instead of inhibiting the production of excessive sebum. Use of harsh chemicals, cosmetics aggravate the symptoms and restrict the sebum within hair follicles. Microdermabrasion is effective solution for oily skin but it is not long lasting.

Conclusion:
Oily skin is the result of fluctuation of hormones and weak immune system. Fluctuation in hormones and weak immune system induces the sebaceous glands to produce excessive oil.
