Accutane And Alcohol
Did your dermatologist suggest you accutane for the removal of your acne? Do you drink often? If the answers of the two questions are yes, then you should know this:
- Liver malfunction is one of the side effects occasionally suffered by those taking accutane medications. Drinking alcohol, which damages liver, while taking accutane treatment may be double punishment for your liver.
- Similarly, the use of accutane can significantly increase cholesterol and triglyceride levels, the use of alcohol during the accutane treatment will further increase the levels of triglyceride and cholesterol.
While this is the information your doctor may already have provided you with, he may have also added that you must have thorough medical check-ups of your liver before and during the accutane treatment and also the medical check-ups of your cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
It is a fact that accutane can disturb liver function. Your dermatologist will be monitoring your liver, but if he finds that the reaction is placid he will let you continue the treatment. Not often accutane causes an indicative hepatitis. However, if your dermatologist feels it can cause you hepatitis, he will then ask you to immediately discontinue the accutane use. As a precautionary measure you should either minimize the use of alcohol or better quit its use while taking accutane as alcohol affects the liver and hence the hepatitis can be suffered.
Pancreatitis, a painful and dangerous condition, can be suffered by Hypertriglyceridaemia (high blood fats). Make sure you avoid simple carbohydrates especially alcohol during the accutane treatment. If your dermatologist finds significant rise in your blood fats on accutane he will not let you continue the accutane treatment.
