Baby Acne Remedies
Baby acne is common after first weak of birth to few months. The pimples usually occur on cheeks but sometimes they occur on forehead and chin also. There are a variety of causes of baby acne like adult acne.
Most studies suggest baby acne occurs due to hormonal fluctuation in their mother. There is another type of small whiteheads that most people misdiagnose as acne. These small bumps are called milia. They are painless and disappear on its own within one or two months. On the other hands, pimples in babies are a little painful depending upon the severity.
Baby Acne Causes:
The most leading cause of baby acne happens to be hormonal fluctuation in baby�s mother. The excessive hormones are transferred through mother to her baby during breastfeeding. Most mothers reports that their babies are on feeder and developed no acne as compare to breastfed babies. Hormones transferred during breastfeeding stimulate the sebaceous glands of baby�s skin to produce excessive sebum which clogs baby�s hair follicles and cause inflammation and infection. It does not mean that you stop breastfeeding your young baby in fear of her developing acne. Breastfeeding is still necessary for your baby to fight bacterial and strengthening your immune system.
Always use baby soaps as they do not contain harsh chemicals and detergents. Harsh detergents may exfoliate baby's skin and cause red, irritating spots.
Delayed bathing is another important cause of baby acne. It is not necessary that baby develop acne in her face, it may develop it anywhere in her body due to delayed bathing. Around two bathing session is necessary for cleaning your baby's skin. But, do consult doctor before bathing your child twice a weak.
Most often harsh laundry detergents happen to be leading cause. Babies are allergic to harsh, odorous detergents with which their cloths and accessories are washed. Thus, avoid harsh baby detergents.
Weak immune system of your baby may lead to acne breakouts as their hair follicles and sebaceous glands may get infected with propionibacteria. Thus, consult your doctor for possible causes, symptoms and treatment.
How long does baby acne last?
In case the baby acne is caused by hormonal fluctuation in her mother's body and transferred through breastfeeding, it may take around two to three months to disappear completely and eliminating further breakouts.
But in case, it is caused due to using harsh detergents and chemicals, it will not usually last until you give up the use of those detergents which your baby is allergic to.
Prevention of Baby Acne:
Sometimes baby get rid of their acne on their own but most often they do not. Herbal baby skin care tonics can be used if it is specially formulated for baby's skin. Be more cautious while purchasing baby skin care tonics.
Avoid harsh soaps and detergents for bathing and washing their clothes and accessories.
