Calamine Lotion for Acne

According to the health experts acne is categorized as a recurrent and common skin condition that develops when the androgen hormone induces the sebaceous glands to excrete a large amount of oil that blocks the pores of the skin, when dirt and bacteria begins to manufacture within the pores it leads to acne development. There are various kinds of acne these include acne pustules, acne pa-pules and acne cysts. The effectiveness of any treatment depends on the type and severity of the skin condition.

Acne treatment for mild condition is comparatively easier since the dirt and bacteria within the pores develop closer to the skin surface, complications occur when the bacteria moves deeper into the clogged pores. Among treatments the Northwestern Health Sciences University recommends using calamine lotion. It helps reduce skin irritation, reduce acne scarring as well as abates skin rashes. Calamine lotion contains iron oxide and zinc oxide that acts fights off free radicals and improves the overall health of the skin. The lotion should be applied each night and can be applied gently onto the affected areas. The lotion should then be washed off the next day with warm water. The lotion can be applied at least three times a day.

Usually natural remedies, over the counter medication and various acne products can help reduce acne however in the case of painful and severe acne such treatments might not be as effective. In such cases it is advisable to consult a dermatologist or a doctor who can offer the relevant treatments for the specific acne problem. Usually dermatologists prescribe oral antibiotics such as Accutane that have a stronger dosage and need to be taken for a longer period of time. On the downside the medications carry some severe side effects that can be detrimental to one’s health.
