Blue Light Therapy for Acne Treatment
In the light therapy, acne sufferers are exposed to a blue light source for 15 minutes twice a week for a month. This light eliminates bacteria that cause acne.
It activates molecules called porphyrins produced by the bacterium, which results in the elimination of the bacterium as well as a decrease in the acne.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) originally approved this treatment as a cancer treatment. Later in 2002, FDA approved blue light therapy for acne as well. Blue light therapy has been available for approximately three years.
