Blue light therapy as a natural remedy for acne

Blue light therapy is a process of exposure of affected area to light of specific wavelength. Unlike, photodynamic acne therapy, blue light acne therapy does not involve Aminolevulinic acid.

How does it work?
There are various causes of acne. Bacterial infection is one of the most important causes of acne. Propionibacteria are normal occurring bacteria in human skin. When excessive sebum is produced, it clogs the hair follies and mixes with Propionibacteria and makes a plaque. The plaque plugs the hair follicles, on the other hand inflammation of sebaceous glands make the hair follicles narrower.

When blue light using LED or any instrument is exposed to affected area, it kills colonies of Propionibacteria and unclogs the hair follicles. When hair follicles are clear and sebum is easily discharged from the skin to the outer surface, no pimple develops in any way.
Thus, two or three therapies are necessary before visible results. Each therapy may apart at least one or two week depending upon the susceptibility of skin.

What are the benefits of blue light therapy?
Due to worst side effects of conventional medications, people now seem to switch to blue light therapy and other natural ways of treating acne.
Following are some most common benefits of blue light therapy:

  • Painless
  • 100% Natural
  • Safe for all ages
  • You can have it at your home
  • 100% successful, but requires two or more therapies
  • Cost-effective solution
  • Each session lasts in 15 minutes and you are free

How can you prove the effectiveness of blue light therapy?
Research reports in British Journal of Dermatology (July 2000) that regular sessions of exposure of blue and red light have been shown to help clear moderate to severe acne.

Another result published in British Journal of Dermatology reports that 120 patients had regular sessions of blue light and after 12 weeks, 76% drop in acne spots.

Another research shows that when red light is used, the process of healing accelerates up to 200% than if blue light was used.

According to American Academy of Dermatology, Blue light kills acne bacteria (Propionibacteria).

Conclusion:
Blue light therapy is one of the safest and most effective topical acne remedy, although it takes around 4 to 6 weeks before showing visible results. It is natural and 100% effective solution for moderate to severe acne.
