Microdermabrasion

 Perform Microdermabrasion yourself at home

You must have heard the term Microdermabrasion and you might consider it as an expensive and ineffective treatment. Many people either do not know what Dermabrasion is or reluctant to use it with a view that it may rough the skin instead of softening.

In this article, you will learn about Microdermabrasion in detail. What is Microdermabrasion? How it is performed? Why is it performed? Is performing Microdermabrasion at home is safer? And how much time does it take to show improvements.

Definition:
Microdermabrasion is a process of exfoliation and peeling the upper most skin layer with minute crystals usually of aluminum oxide to remove scars, wrinkles, age effects, and roughness of the skin.
The process involves more than five sessions to show improvements.s

How does it work?
Before learning how does it work, it is pertinent to explain what changes occur in our skin when we develop scars, wrinkles and roughness.
In case of scars, skin becomes rough due to imbalanced growth of skin cells and fibroblasts. Fibroblasts become over activated and multiply at increased rate than normal skin cells. This phenomenon causes the skin to rough and unsmooth.

There are several causes of wrinkles, such as lack of water in the skin cells and lack of vitamins needed for normal skin growth. As a result skin cells become dead and come out over the upper skin layers. At this stage, skin looks rough.

In Microdermabrasion, we use minute crystals usually of aluminum oxide to scrub the skin's upper layer gently with different tools like applicators, wand and hand piece.
As a first step, you apply cream made up of aluminum oxide over your skin and propel it using the wand. Once the first step finishes, in the second step, a battery operated hand piece is used to gently scrub the skin.
The method is very effective and proven but it requires normally five sessions to show improvements

In earlier times, Microdermabrasion used to be performed at doctors offices, salons and estheticians but now you can perform it yourself being at your home. Now Microdermabrasion kits are available for few dollars to several thousand dollars. However, for personal and home use, you need not to spend more money for purchasing expensive kits. Just purchase a good and normal quality kit and start cleaning your skin.

A home kit contains the following tools but not limited to:

  • Crystal cream containing aluminum oxide
  • Wand for propelling the cream
  • Hand piece
  • Applicators and forms for massaging the skin

Conclusion: Microdermabrasion is effective and proven treatment for scars, wrinkles and aging effects. Besides proven and effective, it is safest for you and your health. It does not produce any side effect.
